Welcome to Summer Term 2022
Welcome to my new term at De Montfort University. From the previous Term, I learned a lot. I hope I will find out more new and interesting information about Media and improve my skills for my future job.
In this particular post, I would want to present you with one of the most influential people in Media who is Oprah Winfrey. She inspires me, because she is not a woman who just became popular, but created a brand with her name.
Oprah Winfrey |
Oprah Winfrey is a person who made her life a brand. 'Oprah Winfrey's construction of her biography on television is exemplary of the kind of cultural transformation that the private must undergo in order to become public. Winfrey's performance of her private self is paradigmatic of the mechanism by which the private is recorded for public consumption as a spectacle.'(J. Harris, El. Watson)
The Oprah Winfrey Show
The Oprah Winfrey Show |
By watching her show I realized that The Oprah Winfrey Show is sectional. Firstly, information is presented from public examinations and only then it goes to definite topics. Despite the different sections the show consists of, one topic flows smoothly into the other, so there is no sudden transition. From the beginning of the program, Oprah presents the main topic, without forgetting to mention the purpose of the discussion.
In addition to this, one of the features of the show is star guests who are considered to be experts. For example, the show was attended by such popular people as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elizabeth Taylor, and others. The main guests are usually introduced as soon as the main theme of the series sounds. This section is interrupted three times for advertising. However, after each advertisement, there is a brief repetition of all important points, which means that the advertisement does not affect the show in a bad way.
Conclusion
Oprah Winfrey is not just a woman, who became a celebrity for her appearance. This woman inspires me for the work that she did. 'She is an example of a strong woman who can show to everyone that 'anything is possible if you work hard enough.' (Z. Stafford)
