Creative Writing: Introduction to the ChapBook, Ideas and Planning

In today's lesson, we were talking about our future writing project. We will create Chapbook.
''Chapbooks are small paper-covered booklets, usually printed on a single sheet or portion of a sheet, folded into books of 8, 12, 16 and 24 pages, often illustrated with crude woodcuts.''(National Library of Scotland)

ChapBooks

Idea

It was hard to create an idea for my writing project. By thinking about what I want to write, I remembered that I am really a fan of horror films and stories. Especially, I like psychological horrors, which can make you scared not because of the screamers, but because of the atmosphere, conversations, and just the whole situation. So, that is why I decided to write my book in the horror genre. Generating this idea I was inspired by Junji Ito, who is a Japanese horror manga artist. Please, look at the example from his manga 'Collection of Junji Ito' below.

I like how he explains and shows the whole horror in his stories. He masterfully describes each character, which gives the reader an indelible impression. It makes you to want to read more and more. Sometimes, I want to know what happened next. However, the story ends. That is why this manga artist catches me. He can finish the story in time and leave space for thinking.

Planning

The best Text Form for me is Narrative because I am going to work on characters as this is my favorite part. So, I want to include a set of short stories (1-5 pages per story) with a frightening atmosphere and different problems of each character.

I really like manga as a genre, but I am going to make more writing than drawing, which diffrent my book from this type of writing. However, I would want to include images, which I want to draw on my own, or to ask my friends who are fans of the Junji Ito Collection as me. So, I am going to write prose.

I want to include at least one image to each story, which will be placed on the separeted pages in the end of each story.

I am planning to create about 20-30 pages fo my work.

I am planning to do this book in two weeks. As I want to wright about 6 stories. I am going to work on 1 per 2-3 days. To create one story I want to spend about 6-7 hours. In addition, I will work on my images, because I do not want any copywriting.

I did not decide how my cover page will look like in the end of the whole process, but I have few ideas. First, I want to frame it as in mangas with a lot of images, which will be drawn by hand. Second, I can put scarry photo, which I will do by myself.

I do not want to include the blurb on the cover pages. However, I will include it anyway and place it inside of the book on the 2-3 page. It will take a form of short description of the book.

As English language is not my first language, drafting and redrafting will need to be done. I will ask my friends, who are native speakers to proofread my writing.
